How to Buy a Tiny Home that is Right for You.

At Bretts Tiny Homes we understand the dream of living in your own unique tiny home – tiny homes are our passion after all! That’s why we’re here to provide you with a guide to buying the tiny home that is perfect for you, your needs, and your lifestyle.

What to keep in mind when you buy a tiny house

What to keep in mind when you
buy a tiny house

Owning your own tiny home can be a dream come true. But you need to make sure you purchase the right house for your needs and budget. Here’s a few things to keep in mind when you’re searching around for a tiny home to buy:

  1. Keep in mind what you’re planning on using your tiny home building for. Whether you’re going to use it as a granny flat for a family member on your property, rent it out as an AirBnB holiday home, or live in it full-time yourself, the purpose of your tiny home should influence which tiny house you buy. There are a variety of sizes, styles, and amenities available in each model, so it is important to find one that has everything you are looking for.
  2. Make sure to check with your local zoning laws. Before you buy a tiny home, you need to see if there are any restrictions on where you can park your tiny house.
  3. Think about which features are most important to you and choose a design that includes them. For example, if you want a lot of storage space, then you will need to look for a tiny house with ample cupboards and shelves.
  4. Make sure you’re prepared for the challenges of living in a tiny home. The lack of privacy and storage isn’t for everyone, but if you're willing to put in the work, owning a tiny house on wheels can be a rewarding experience.

Should you buy a kit, at Lock-up, or turn-key?

Should you buy a kit,
at Lock-up, or turn-key?

Depending on your own personal preference, you can choose to buy a completed tiny house on wheels or purchase it during the construction stage.

If you’re looking for help getting started on your tiny home build but you want complete control over the rest of the construction process, a tiny home kit is the perfect option for you.

The tiny home kit includes:
  • Trailer
  • Floor
  • Frame

If you’re not looking to do the majority of the build, but you would love to have control over the fit-out stage, you can buy a tiny house that is in the lock-up stage.

The lock-up tiny home includes:
  • Trailer
  • Particle board flooring
  • Roof & wall frame
  • External cladding & fascia
  • External windows & doors
  • Flashings & guttering
  • Trim around doors & windows

Don’t want to have to worry about building a tiny home and just want to be able to move straight in? Buy a completed tiny house that is ready for turn-key.

The Turn-key Tiny Home Includes:
Everything you need to move straight in!

Things to consider when buying a Bretts WheelHouse

Generally speaking, for construction and usage purposes a WheelHouse is classified as a Caravan. This means regulations applied to a typical house do not apply. In fact in Queensland a Tiny Home on Wheels doesn’t need to be built by a licenced builder.

To put your mind at ease Bretts does hold a registered QBCC builders licence so we can say with confidence that our Wheelhouse’s are built to the very highest standards possible, resulting in a vastly superior product. Each WheelHouse is built in accordance with the relevant Australian Standards and under the self-certifying regulations for caravans with a GVM under 4.5 tonne.

When considering placement of a WheelHouse on your property always check with your local council first. There may be limits to how many WheelHouse’s you can have on your property or how long people can use a WheelHouse for permanent accommodation. We can assist with providing the correct information on regulatory requirements applicable to your local council area.

As a registered builder we can also provide the relevant documentation regarding the structural validity and warranties on all aspects of your WheelHouse from the trailer to the roof, If you decide to sell your WheelHouse at some stage in the future these documents will undoubtedly help to increase buyer confidence.
